Ebony is one of the rarest and most luxurious woods in the world. It stands out for its characteristic dark, almost black colour with fine stripes, which makes each pendant completely original. Due to its high density and hardness, it is also very durable and has been recognised for centuries as a symbol of strength and elegance. The Egyptians used it to make fine and elaborate objects. It was also used to make tools and ornamental objects that would last for eternity.
The ebony wood we work with comes from West Africa, mostly from Cameroon and Nigeria. African ebony is one of the most expensive exotic woods. Its density is so high that, unlike most woods, it can even sink in water. Its specific gravity is approximately 1200 kg/m3.
