Guaiac wood is one of the hardest and heaviest woods in the world, at approximately 1300 kg/m3. Guaiac is particularly resistant to wear. It contains a large amount of resin and dries very slowly. Because of its high resin content, it was used to make objects that were subjected to high mechanical stress. It comes from Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.

This exotic wood, often called the 'tree of life', is known for its natural resistance to wear and water. It has a beautiful, deep green-brown colour that gains depth and grace with age. Due to its hardness and unique texture, guaiac wood is popular not only for its beauty but also for its healing properties, which are highly valued in traditional medicine. In German, this wood is called Pockholz (pox wood). In the 17th century, people believed that the essential oils contained in it cured smallpox. The resin of the wood was also used against syphilis, for the treatment of skin diseases, rheumatism, arthritis, etc
