If you wish to gift the jewel, you do not have to worry about the gift wraping – the jewelery will be ready to share love and joy.

What is amber

Baltic amber, also called succinite, comes from various species of the now extinct conifer Pinus succinifera. There are estimated to be up to around 350 species of conifer. Baltic amber has the highest proportion of succinic acid of all the species. It accounts for up to 8 % of its total weight.

The richest deposits are estimated to be in the Kaliningrad region, as well as in northern Poland, Lithuania and along the Baltic coast. Its age is estimated at approximately 28 to 54 million years. It is older than the Baltic Sea itself.

Baltic amber tends to be transparent, semi-transparent or completely opaque under a yellow-brown layer of oxidised crust, called milky. It offers a wide range of colours, from snow-white to beige, lemon yellow, honey, orange, red and brown. The Polish scientist Adam Chetnik, in his Little Dictionary of Amber Varieties, defined around 200 variations.

How to Care for Amber Jewellery

1. Clean your jewellery regularly.
The best way is to wipe it with a cloth made of 100% cotton or classic denim. Amber can be cleaned dry or with a cloth dipped in lukewarm water. If necessary, you can use a little mild soap or detergent. However, make sure to rinse and dry the amber thoroughly with a cotton cloth afterwards.

Do not use microfibre or any polishing cloths made from man-made fibres. Never use ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners or chemicals for cleaning. If you need to clean the silver part of the jewellery, use a cloth designed for cleaning silver, but avoid amber parts.

Keep jewellery carefully stored
Ideally, amber jewellery should be stored in a cotton or silk bag after removal. This will protect it from scratches. We do not recommend leaving amber jewellery with other jewellery, especially with sharp metal edges, as this increases the risk of scratching and damaging the surface.
